APC 2023 Photoshoot

After 2 years of Covid, I had the opportunity to take part of the Athlone Photography Club Fashion shoot. While studio portrait isn't necessarily "my thing" (outside my comfort zone), I rarely miss an opportunity to learn and try to take photos of people. Clearly, for studio portraiture, the most difficult is to "direct" the model: where to look at, where to put the hands so they're not cut, what to wear... I don't have a clue :-).

I could play with my peers' triggers and flash set-up, which allowed me to gain a bit of confidence in the area. Thanks a lot to Philip McLoughlin, Sean Ganly for lending their gears and sharing their expertise.

Make-up artists: Aoife Ruane + Carrie Cunnane + Julia Dannylenko (@julia_makeup.artist)

Camera used: Canon EOS R, RF 100-400mm, Flash (for most).

Karen Egan - I've learnt about "negative space" in a photography course in 2019 and took the opportunity to give it a try (it's actually one of the rare things I know how to do in Photoshop).

Gary Neary - Another try with negative space with a (brave) male model (@Gary_Neary89 @Gary Neary)

Martha is the daughter of one of our photography club members (Martin), so we're lucky to have her posing for us at every photoshoot opportunity. (@martha_finnerty, @Martha ni Fhiannachta)

Ciara Lawless - Very popular model, I only have 3-4 minutes so I'm happy enough with the results. (@ciaralawlessofficial)

Jakub Andersohn - Jakub arrived 15 min before the end of the photoshoot. Only 1 or 2 in our club could take photos with him (and I was one of the lucky ones).

Julia Dannylenko - Julia came over as a back-up make-up artist for our photoshoot, but ended up posing for us too at the end. She was super natural as a model. (@julia_makeup.artist )
